The history of FPI

1968 |
Roosevelt Neighborhood
Henry L. Cats, a Holocaust Survivor and first-generation Dutch immigrant, starts H.L. Cats & Associates in Seattle, Washington. H.L. Cats & Associates provides private investigations and security guard services to the Puget Sound region and is Henry’s first entry into the security and life safety industry.
1970s |
Lake City
H.L. Cats & Associates becomes Central Security – continuing its professional security guard and investigation services while also expanding into security systems and intrusion detection. Roy L. Cats, Henry’s son, begins working for the family business first as a security guard and later in a variety of other roles. Central Security also moves to a new home in Lake City, which will later become FPI’s first office years later.
LATE 1980s |
Lake City
Central Security starts its own central monitoring station at the Lake City office. Central Security would eventually become Safeguard Security and relocate near it’s original location in the Roosevelt neighborhood of Seattle.
1996 |
Lake City
Seeing the growing need for Fire Alarm services in commercial and industrial buildings, Roy L. Cats branches off on his own and starts Fire Protection, Inc. Shortly after starting the business, FPI moves into Central Security’s original office on Lake City Way in Seattle, Washington.
EARLY 2000s |
Everett
FPI eventually outgrows its home on Lake City Way and moves to a new home in Everett, Washington where it employs roughly 20 employees, many of whom are still with FPI today. Fire Protection, Inc. continues to specialize in a variety of life safety specialties – performing installation, service, and inspections on a wide range of life safety and security systems.
PRESENT DAY
Today, Fire Protection, Inc. resides in an even larger corporate office in Lynnwood, Washington, employs 50 employees, and has over 4000 clients throughout the Puget Sound region. FPI remains locally owned and operated and the family legacy continues as both of Roy’s children - Jonathan and Karlee - also work for the company. FPI continues to see a great trajectory of growth while remaining committed to life safety, employee wellness, and customer satisfaction.
